Singapore-based classified company Carousell is gearing up to sell secondhand bicycles online with Decathlon, having signed a new partnership with the sports equipment retailer.

This is the first time the sports goods company has brought its bicycle trade-in system to e-commerce in Singapore. The deal is based on a buy-back program operating since October 2023, letting users trade in old bikes for a store gift card equivalent to the bicycle’s value.

Users who want to sell their bicycles can schedule a meeting with Decathlon via the marketplace app by clicking on the “Sell to Carousell bicycle” call to action. The bike will then be inspected and refurbished by Decathlon’s experts before being put up for sale on the official Second Life store, @decathlon_secondlife on Carousell.

The partnership is among Decathlon’s environmental efforts, encouraging users to participate in the circular economy as part of Second Life in Singapore (a free 3D virtual world where users can socialize, connect and create using free voice and text chat), where it has 15 stores and will soon open two more.

“Sustainability has been a core tenet of Decathlon’s business,” said Nathaniel Gregory, circular economy and services lead at Decathlon Singapore. “Besides enhancing our production process to produce quality items eco-consciously, it is important to extend our product life cycle further.”
