Gig-work app Mercari Hallo has exceeded one million users within 16 days of its launch, according to Japan-based marketplace operator Mercari.

This is the cumulative number of users who have entered into a user agreement for the on-demand work service, it said in a news release.

Mercari Hallo launched earlier this month to let its users make use of their idle time to work. Initially, it targets 7.5 million potential gig workers among its community of 22.6 million users.

Founded in 2013, Mercari generated revenue of $321 million U.S. during the three months to December 2023. It also operates in the U.S.

Mercari’s domestic competitor Jimoty has also been running a hyperlocal job matching service since 2022.
