EBay has promoted Jenny Schmaler to the newly created position of head of global c-to-c business, as part of its efforts to increase private sales across the world.

Schmaler, who has been responsible for private customer operations for EBay Germany for the past two years, will report to the vice president of European and international markets, Oliver Klinck.

Schmaler previously worked in general business operations in EBay’s consumer electronics department, and between 2019 and 2022 she was deputy to the managing director of Conrad Electronic Group.

Alongside Schmaler’s promotion, the managing director of used designer furniture marketplace WayFair Germany, Dr. Saskia Meier-Andrae, has been hired as EBay Germany’s general manager.

“The recent organizational changes enable us to become even more globally oriented, and at the same time the regional markets and their managers will continue to play a central role in our success in the future,” said Klinck.

Once known primarily as a c-to-c business, EBay now caters to many professional sellers, particularly those who specialize in what it calls “focus” categories — motor parts and accessories, collectibles, luxury goods and refurbished products. However, the company maintains sizable offerings in c-to-c and automotive in some markets.

EBay operates in more than 190 markets, serving approximately 132 million active buyers with 2 billion live listings.
