OpenAI, the AI company that made ChatGPT a household name, has announced two new appointments.

Sarah Friar (above), former CEO of neighborhood social network NextDoor, will become the company’s first CFO. She held the same role at fintech company Block (formerly Square) and has also worked for Goldman Sachs, McKinsey and Salesforce.

Friar helped both NextDoor and Square go public, but OpenAI has played down the idea that it could be next.

Meanwhile, Kevin Weil (above), who was president of product and business at imaging company Planet Labs, is OpenAI’s new CPO. He is a former VP of product at Instagram, VP of product at Novi at Facebook and SVP of product at Twitter.

In a blog post, OpenAI said that the appointments would help it “scale to meet the needs of our growing customer base and the complex and global environment in which we are operating.”

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said: “Sarah and Kevin bring a depth of experience that will enable OpenAI to scale our operations, set a strategy for the next phase of growth and ensure that our teams have the resources they need to continue to thrive.”
