Mercari has extended its direct foreign outreach by joining forces with South Korea-based horizontal marketplace Bunjang for sales of used luxury goods and vintage stuffs from Japan.

Under an agreement, Bunjang added an overseas tab to its app for users to buy initially used fashion products from Mercari, both announced Thursday.

For Mercari and Bunjang, the partnership is first of its kind as marketplaces, although both of them leverage infrastructure of buying agent services to give foreign buyers access to their listed products.

Notably, the collaboration emerged one month after Rakuten’s marketplace app, Rakuma, piloted EBay link-up.

Launched in 2011 and operated by Bungaejangter, Inc., Bunjang saw transaction volume in its fashion category double in the first quarter of 2024 over the same period last year and 43% compared to the previous quarter, according to its latest statistics.

Mercari launched in Japan in 2013. It also operates in the U.S.
