Autohome elevates financing to key focus

Despite a shakeup at the highest echelons of the company, Beijing-based automotive information and transaction platform Autohome (汽车之家, NYSE: BABA) maintained its consistent growth rate in Q2 of FY2017. Revenue increased 37 percent year-over-year to 1.5 billion RMB ($226 million U.S.), exceeding the company’s guidance for the year of 28 percent. Net income attributable to Autohome during the quarter increased 50 percent year-over-year to 518 million RMB.

China’s state-owned auto manufacturing conglomerate BAIC Group (北汽集团) has announced that it will be launching a used auto information “super-platform.” The information was made public at a launch ceremony for the project which is currently known only as the “Qi Yuan Nationwide Auto Market Intelligent Services Sharing Platform” (启辕全国汽车市场智慧服务共享平台项目).

Baixing invests in video content producer

Baixing (百姓网), a leading classifieds site in China, played the role of angel investor when it pumped 5 million RMB ($750,000 U.S.) into the 4-month-old content producer Chengse Haiyang (橙色海洋). It appears Baixing may be interested in pursuing high-end video content for its platform via a close working relationship with Chengse Haiyang.

"Yan Chuang Talks Cars" (闫闯说车), one of the most popular online auto-reviewing programs in China, joined Autohome’s rapidly-expanding stable of in-house content, when Beijing-based Autohome (汽车之家, NYSE: ATHM) signed an eye-opening 20-million RMB ($3 million U.S.) contract with the star of the videos, the eponymous Yan Chuang 闫闯.

58.com’s dominance of used autos in China remains unshaken, according to the latest figures from third-party analytics platform Gongpingjia.com (公平价). More than half of the nation’s used auto listings can be found on one of the company’s three major platforms – 58.com (58同城), Ganji.com (赶集网) and Guazi ershouche (瓜子二手车).
