In the AIM Group’s 2017 Real Estate Classified Annual, we took a deep look at the battle for New York City following pricing and changes in functionality made by Zillow Group’s StreetEasy (and the pushback from the city’s strong realtor community). Subsequently, StreetEasy general manager Susan Daimler contacted us with some updates to our story. Here’s some of what she told us.
Zillow Group’s StreetEasy saw the number of listings on its New York-based rental site plunge by more than 50 percent this week after it started charging a $3-per-day per unit fee. Brokers were not happy.
Neighborhood social network Nextdoor is adding real estate listings. A new property section is being piloted in six regions: the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Portland, Phoenix, greater Atlanta, and Dallas/Fort Worth, with plans to add additional markets “over the course of 2017,” according to an information page hidden in Nextdoor’s “Help” section.
Caledonia (Private) Investments Ltd., a major investor in classified advertising sites, has disclosed a stake of almost 10 percent of the shares of TrueCar. Caledonia has been one of the leading investors in Zillow Group, Zillow and Trulia (before their merger) and Rightmove, among others. TrueCar shares have almost tripled in value during the past year.
Paul Levine, who spent more than six years at Trulia and helped guide it through the merger with Zillow, announced he’s leaving Trulia in May after more than six years and will join a venture capital firm. Trulia’s Pete Flint is severing his remaining connection with the company he co-founded, according to an SEC filing.
Zillow is continuing its New York buying spree with its latest acquisition: Long Island real estate portal Hamptons Real Estate Online.
Pete Flint, co-founder and former CEO-chairman of Trulia, joined a VC firm that provides cash, technology and mentors to start-ups. He remains on the board at Zillow Group.
Zillow's Premier Agent Direct program enables realtors to place ads on Facebook, Zillow and Trulia for $1,000 a month.
Zillow Group reported “record” revenue in its Q3 FY2016 earnings report with a 27-percent bump over the same period last year to $224 million U.S..
